High-risk foot care
Our expertise in high-risk foot management
At our clinic, we specialise in high-risk foot management, drawing on extensive experience within Queensland Health and wound care services. High-risk feet are most commonly associated with conditions such as diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, peripheral vascular disease, or previous foot ulcers, which increase the risk of serious complications including infection, ulceration, and amputation.
Evidence-based approach
Our approach is based on guidelines from the International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot (IWGDF). Every patient undergoes a comprehensive neurovascular assessment, including:
- Neurological testing for protective sensation and nerve function
- Vascular assessment, using Doppler, toe pressures, and other objective measures
- Foot structure and biomechanics evaluation
Comprehensive neurovascular assessment
These assessments allow us to stratify each person’s individual risk for foot complications and develop a personalised management plan. Depending on need, this may include:
- Education on foot care and self-monitoring
- Wound management and dressing strategies
- Offloading techniques including footwear and orthotics
- Exercise, stretching, or physical therapy to maintain mobility
Our goal is to prevent foot complications before they occur, reduce the risk of ulcers and infection, and optimise healing if wounds are present. Through a combination of evidence-based assessment, early intervention, and ongoing monitoring, we provide patients with the support and treatment they need to maintain healthy, functional feet.
